NLP

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) shows that all behaviour has a structure and that structure can be modelled, learned, taught, and changed (re-programmed). If how you have been doing something is not achieving the results your efforts deserve, NLP may be the answer.

Filtering:

It is thought that we receive 11 million bits of information a second from the outside world. Yet we can only consciously hold 7 +/- 2 bits of information in our conscious awareness at any one time.

From the moment we receive information through the five senses (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory and Gustatory), it is being gradually reduced down through a series of filters to manageable proportions.

When the information arrives through the filter it goes to a part of the brain called the thalamus, which is like a junction box. This sends the information out to other parts of the brain that are responsible for processing it, e.g., visual information will be split into its submodalities like colour, contrast, movement, etc.

Astonishingly, when the information is brought back from the hippocampus to the Thalmus there is 80% more information than when it was first relayed. This means that 80% of what we perceive we make up.

Reality as we see it.

We all favour one filter over another and in NLP these are called Preferred Representational Systems. These representational systems are the bridge between the world and the brain. The information represents our experience of reality not reality itself.

What can Cognitive Hypnotherapy do?

The task of cognitive hypnotherapy is to enable you to process or reprocess this information in a way which empowers you and helps you to realise your full potential.
